Karmin

Being in the Philippines limits one's exposure to different types of music and artists if you just rely on mainstream radio and local TV channels. Thankfully we have several stations who try to shake up the radio airwaves by playing non-mainstream music as well as cable TV. And, of course, there's the internet. I've discovered so many new (to me) artists by just scrounging around the internet - specifically YouTube.

A few weeks ago my sister introduced me to Karmin. She showed me their cover of "Super Bass" by Nicki Minaj on YouTube and I was pretty much hooked.

Karmin, "the little band with a big sound", is composed of Amy Heidemann and Nick Noonan. Amy just has amazing vocals and her talent for rapping is very impressive (she also plays the guitar!). Nick, on the other hand, plays a number of instruments (one is the trombone!) and has a decent singing voice to complete the package. Together, they make awesome cover songs, good originals, and very entertaining YouTube videos.

I love how Nick shifts from playing the trombone to the cajón and back throughout the whole song.

This is one of their original songs and I really like it. Very radio friendly.

You can view all their videos by visiting their YouTube channel here (http://www.youtube.com/user/karmincovers). You can also visit their official website, www.karminmusic.com.
