Nifty Fifty

I've been researching on what fixed zoom lens to get for my Canon 500D. It's only been less than a year since I got my camera and I'm pretty happy with the kit lens, but for the type of shots that I want to take it felt like I needed wanted a new lens.

I was choosing among several lenses:
  • Canon EF 35mm f/2.0
  • Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM
  • Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II
  • Sigma 30mm f/1.4

The list of lenses above is based on forum posts and reviews I've read around the internet. I eventually decided to get the original lens I've always wanted, which is the 50mm f/1.8, mainly for its bang for the buck. It's my first lens purchase and I'm totally satisfied.

Last Saturday I was finally able to take my new lens on a photo shoot during Jex's company sports fest. I still need to get used to the positioning and distance factors that come with a fixed 50mm zoom, but I'm still pretty happy with the results I got. I really love the 1.8 aperture!
