The Little Food Truck Called GuacTruck

I first saw this interestingly designed truck on the parking lot in front of Net Square in BGC. I saw it while I was on the Fort bus and gave it a long "Hmm...interesting" look and thought "why don't we have something like that near our building?", and just forgot about it afterward. I didn't think of Googling about it since I didn't get the chance to see its name.
Earlier this week I went to Net Quad to go to BPI and suddenly saw the truck parked at the Net Quad dirt parking lot, just opposite Starbucks. I gave it a "Hey, it's you!" look. I didn't try it out because it was pretty late and they looked like they were already cleaning up.

I finally tried it out when my office mate told me how they've ordered food there and that they liked it. That was last Thursday. I am now a fan.

The little cute truck is called the GuacTruck and they serve Filipino-Mexican food.

The truck is so cute, with its wood grain finish look and simple, smartly-designed and eye-catching graphics. You can see the "kitchen" through the glass (plastic? acrylic? I really don't know, I didn't touch it)  panel on the side. And you order through the window near the front of the truck.

I tried the burrito bowl, with beef, tomato salsa, and all toppings. There wasn't much to choose from the menu, which made it easier actually. It was lunch. I was hungry. I wanted rice. Burrito bowl!
The disadvantage of buying from a food truck is that you can't sit down while waiting for your food (you can sit on the ground if you want...or the sidewalk). Another disadvantage was there was no shade to hide from the hot midday sun or air conditioning to keep you cool. It took a bit longer than I expected for my food to come out. But it was all good, just less tolerable because of the sun.

They use an origami box to package their food. It's pretty clever since it's just one piece of cardboard that's been folded to create a container. Its shape and design used makes it unnecessary to use glue, staples, or tape. Isn't that amazing? Plus, they have this thing where you get a stamp on a loyalty card for each packaging you return to them. After collecting 10 stamps you get a free meal!

So far, I've tried 2 variants of the burrito bowl. The first time, I ordered one with beef, tomato salsa and all toppings. I was thinking of adding more cheese, because cheese is awesome, but when I opened my order they put in a lot of cheese anyway, so yay! The second time, I just changed the tomato salsa to corn salsa.

The rice that  comes with the burrito bowl is apparently
cilantro rice garlic rice (thanks for the correction, @Guactruck!). It's not that obvious when you eat it, though, but still good. Not too mushy nor too dry. The beef is prepared arroz ala cubana and has some raisins, which I like because they go well with the whole dish. The lettuce is chopped in small pieces and is fresh and crunchy. The tomato salsa is nothing new and extraordinary, but it was fresh. If you want something different, the corn salsa is the way to go since it brings a sweet flavor into the dish. I already mentioned that they are generous with the cheese, so I'm not complaining. The dollop of fluffy sour cream to top off your burrito bowl just brings the whole dish together (plus I love sour cream). In the end, the burrito bowl that I thought wouldn't fill me enough for lunch was very filling and made my tummy happy.
If you want a bit of kick in your order you can ask for some hot sauce
The GuacTruck will be in their usual spot in front of Net Square this week, but the week after that I think they'll be back at Net Quad. You can see their schedule here (http://www.guactruck.com/location.html) as well as a map of their locations.
Now you see it, now you don't
You can visit their website http://www.guactruck.com/ for more information on the GuacTruck. I love the colors, graphics, mustaches, and the cute poems. =)
