Sucker Punch

No spoilers, I promise.

I've been wanting to watch this movie ever since I saw the trailer. I'm a sucker for fantasy and action movies so I just had to watch this, which I did last Saturday with some friends.

A few days before the weekend I already read what people thought about the movie around the internet. All of them basically said that the movie sucked, which was disappointing, but I still wanted to watch it.

I try not to set any expectations when watching a movie in the cinema. I believe that when I don't have any expectations, or at least set my expectations down really low, I will less likely be disappointed by the movie. Nowadays, you'd spend around 150.00 Pesos for a movie screening in a cinema. Add to that the amount you'd spend on food, gas and parking (if you're driving).  If I'm spending that much just to watch a movie I want to make sure I'll enjoy it.

So, here it is: I think the movie is awesome. I already established it to myself that for this movie I don't care if the plot sucked as long as I get to see some awesome action sequences. I was not disappointed. I also think the plot wasn't so bad. I mean, you certainly can't compare it to "Inception", but it's still interesting and engaging enough for me. Another plus for me was the soundtrack. The songs picked really complemented the scenes well.

I was surprised to find out that the main character is played by Emily Browning, the same actress who plays Violet in the "A Series of Unfortunate Events". She was sporting brown/red hair in that movie and is suddenly a blonde in Sucker Punch. I think she looks better as a blonde, though. She's my favorite character just because she's the one with the pistol and a katana.

It's a mindless action movie with hot girls in skimpy outfits, exciting action sequences, great effects, and an awesome soundtrack. Since the movie has an all-female cast you'd think only guys would really enjoy it, especially with the sexy outfits. I'm a girl and I enjoyed the movie a lot, maybe even more than my boyfriend did (not sure, we didn't really discuss, haha).

To those who've already seen the movie, share what you think.
