Top: chili ice cream Bottom: sizzling brownie ala mode |
The wings were fried to the right crispiness and was not too oily. We got the barbecue sauce & jalapeño dips and ordered an additional garlic ranch dip. The barbecue sauce was great with the wings. I also liked
combining the garlic ranch & jalapeño sauce. I try not to eat pork and sisig too much anymore, but I tried their sisig and it tasted good. They serve it with egg, which is how I like sisig, but it's not crispy and has a bit too much fat
I read a tip on foursquare to try their chili ice cream, so we ordered one. We were curious about their sizzling brownie ala mode as well, so we ordered one too.
The chili ice cream was basically a scoop of strawberry ice cream topped with chili flakes and hot sauce. Was it chili? Hell yeah. Was it good? We didn't like it so much. We thought the type of hot sauce they used didn't taste well with the ice cream. Maybe cayenne pepper topping would taste better. We totally loved the sizzling brownie ala mode, though. The dish was a chocolate brownie sitting on a small sizzling plate with a scoop of vanilla ice cream (duh, ala mode) and drizzled with chocolate and strawberry sauce. The sizzling part, of course, was the hot sizzling plate making the sauce sizzle. The hot plate also toasted the bottom of the brownie and at the same time made the middle part gooey.
We were pretty satisfied with our meal at Papa J's. The food was good and very affordable. All in all, you get great value for your money.
