I learned how to make crumble from my sister. She made a mixed fruit crumble before and I helped her make the crumble topping. It's really easy and simple to make so I thought of making it for Jex. Yay oven!

Apple Crumble
Prep time: 10 mins
Cook time: 30 mins
Serving size: approx. 2-3 persons (depending on how much you love apple crumble)
Filling: | |
Granny Smith apples | 2 |
Lemon juice | from half a lemon |
White sugar | 2 1/2 tablespoons |
Cinnamon (or more if you like cinnamon) | 1/4 teaspoon |
Crumble Topping: | |
All-purpose flour | 1/2 cup |
Brown sugar | 1/3 cup |
Butter (cold, cut into small cubes) | 1/3 cup (around 2/3 stick) |
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (176°C)
- Slice apples into small cubes. It's up to you if you want to keep the skin on. I always leave them on even when making apple pie.
- Place apple cubes in the baking dish. The dish I used was around 7-8 inches in diameter and was around an inch deep.
- Take 1/2 slice of lemon and squeeze juice over the apples.
- Sprinkle sugar and cinnamon over apple cubes. Mix thoroughly so that everything is coated well.
- Set apple mixture aside.
- In a mixing bowl combine flour, brown sugar, and butter.
- Rub the butter into the flour and sugar using your hands. You can use a fork but I find it better to use your hands. Mix until it gains a crumbly texture.
- Sprinkle crumble over the apple cubes.
- Bake at 350°F (176°C) for 20-30 minutes.
- Allow to cool down for a bit before serving.
This tastes good served hot or cold. You can also serve it ala mode, which we also tried. Jex loves the crumble topping so much and asks me to put more sugar in it. I am always so surprised when he asks something to be made sweeter because I know he's not a fan of super sweet stuff.
