The Liebster Award

Years ago when I was in elementary school I was nominated for class president by one of my classmates (out of nowhere). Up to now I still have no idea why I was nominated. Unsurprisingly, I didn't win and only got two votes while the other nominee got the rest of votes, including mine. The nomination and the two votes were odd, but flattering.

A few days ago I got another nomination (not for class president) for something called The Liebster Award thanks to my friend Eula. Thanks man!

The Liebster Award

The word liebster means "dearest" or "beloved" in German. The award is not a real award with winners, judges, and whatnot, but more of a unique way of discovering and sharing new blogs. It's meant for blogs with less than 200 followers (oh, I'm so qualified for this) and the rules are as follows:
  • List 11 random facts about yourself.
  • Answer the 11 questions which are given to you by your nominator.
  • Ask 11 new questions for all the bloggers that you nominate to win the award.
  • Nominate 9 bloggers with less than 200 followers to win the award.
  • Go to each of the blogger's pages to let them know about their nomination.
  • Thank the blogger who nominated you by mentioning them and link it back to their blog on your post.

11 Random Facts About Me

  1. I am not a morning person. My friends and those who know me well know this. The only person who has successfully turned me into a semi-consistent morning person is Jex. Proof you say? Jex and I started living together just last December so when we went back to work this January I had to adjust my work schedule. We both went to work from 7 am to 4pm, which meant we had to wake up not later than 5 am. Now that he's out of the country for work my body clock is screwed up again.
  2. I am currently on vacation from the corporate world. In short, I am currently a bum (and loving it).
  3. When I was young I didn't care much for fashion, accessories, and making myself look pretty. I wasn't into "girly" things. Looking at old pictures of me makes me cringe because I had no sense of style whatsoever. I only started getting interested in shopping for anything when I started working. Super late bloomer haha! I'm not a fashionista but I am now more conscious about what I wear and how I look.
  4. I love food but my fascination for cooking is something that I only picked up recently.
  5. I still enjoy watching cartoons. I turn the TV to either Cartoon Network or Nickelodeon by default when I'm looking for something to watch. I only started watching Adventure Time recently and I love it. I don't understand kids' fascination for Oggy and the Cockroaches, though. I mean, it's a cartoon about cockroaches, eww.
  6. I don't know how to ride a bike.
  7. I know how to drive a stick shift and prefer it over automatic transmission. Manila traffic is the only reason why I'd drive an automatic car.
  8. I have only owned seven different mobile phones in my whole life (in chronological order of ownership):
    1. Nokia 3210 – my very first phone, which I begged for from my dad
    2. Nokia 3310 – I liked being up to date with mobile phone models so when this came out I just had to have it
    3. Nokia 7210 – Same as above
    4. Sony Ericsson S700i – I loved the uniqueness of this phone. It doesn't flip but it swishes! I still have it and it still works, but now has poor and unreliable battery life.
    5. Nexus One – My previous phone was active for around 5 years. I was eager to get on the smartphone wave so I took a chance and bought this from the official Google store. I loved this phone so much until it got stolen. I was devastated when it happened.
    6. Nokia E5 – I got this for free from my mobile network's retention program. I only use it as a backup phone.
    7. HTC Sensation – A few months after my Nexus One was stolen I finally decided to get this. I love the build quality of HTC phones so I stayed with the brand. This is my current phone and I love it, though I get an itch to buy a new every now and then.
  9. I am afraid of flying cockroaches (flying ipis = flipis), frogs, and creepy crawlies.
  10. I love riding roller coasters and one of my goals in life is to go to Cedar Point, Six Flags (whichever one has a lot of awesome roller coasters), Fuji-Q Highland, and Nagashima Spa Land.
  11. I'm right-handed and left eye dominant.

11 Questions from Eula

  1. What do you blog about?
I really just blog about anything and everything. But, a lot of my posts are about food and my kitchen adventures. I just really like food (and it shows haha)
  2. Name a movie you think everyone should watch.
I am a geek and a nerd so I recommend Back to the Future. I enjoyed the two other movies in the trilogy but they don't feel as genuine as the first one. It's a classic science fiction movie that I think people of all ages would enjoy.
  3. Recommend a book you think everyone should read.
I'm not sure if Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card is for everyone but I definitely enjoyed reading it and have read it more than once. The story is just brilliant and Ender is a character that you can really fall in love with.
  4. Where is your favorite place in the world?
    At home with Jex. =)
  5. What's one cosmetic product you can't live without?
I can go out of the house without any make-up on but I must always have and be wearing lip balm.
  6. What's one skincare product you can't live without?
Moisturizer/lotion. I always need to put moisturizer on after washing my face. My hands get dry so easily so I have to put on lotion especially after washing my hands.
  7. What do you like to read about in blogs?
Right now, I have an affinity for blogs about food, especially when they post recipes and have nice photos.
  8. What is one thing you would like to improve in your blog or your blogging (e.g., writing style, photos, layout)?
I try to improve the way I write and the photos I include with each post I put up. My style hasn't been consistent throughout the period I've been blogging because I am really fickle-minded about visuals and how I want things to look and "sound" to readers.
  9. What is your favorite thing to blog about?
Posting about food is more of a usual topic and not really a favorite. I enjoy sharing nice photos that I've taken, whether the post is about food, a trip, or something random. I like taking photos and sharing them.
  10. What is the most difficult thing for you to blog about?
Well, if something is difficult to blog about I tend not to write about them haha. In general, topics that I'm not familiar with are difficult to blog about. But if I have to write a post about something unfamiliar I do research.
  11. What is one thing about blogging that frustrates you?
Blogging started out as a hobby for me and it still is. When I started out I was a teenager and I didn't really care if people read the things I posted or not because it was my outlet for things that were going on in my life or things I just wanted to say when I was bored. Now, it feels like I need to get something more from blogging aside from the personal satisfaction of maintaining one. That's something I'm still trying to figure out.

I Now Nominate…

I nominate these blogs because I either enjoy their posts, they have similar interests as mine, or both. I follow a lot of blogs but most of them already have a huge following so I think these people deserve to be mentioned.
  1. In My Red Glasses (http://inmyredglasses.blogspot.com/)
  2. Just Today (http://dalejusttoday.wordpress.com)
  3. Everyday Sunday (http://www.charmtan.com/)
  4. More Sprinkles (http://more-sprinkles.com/)
  5. Mom and Baby (http://mamabonita.wordpress.com/)
  6. Chrissete (http://allbeensaidbefore.wordpress.com/)
  7. Eula Sleeps (http://eulasleeps.blogspot.com) – because I like making endless loops (programming joke; hehe nerd). You don't have to do this again, though, unless you want to!
