What is a gamer?

Historically, the term "gamer" usually referred to someone who played role-playing games and wargames. Since video games became popular, the term has changed to include players of video games. While the term nominally includes those who do not necessarily consider themselves to be gamers (i.e., casual gamers), it is commonly used to identify those who spend at least some of their leisure time playing or learning about games.

According to the article on Wikipedia about gamers I think I am a mid-core gamer while Jex is definitely a hardcore gamer. I've always enjoyed playing video games since I was a kid and my interest in games expanded a bit more when I met Jex.

Contemplating A Giveaway

I know I post about food most of the time, so here is a post that is not about food but about another one of my interests -- gaming!

Steam is a digital distribution platform used for games and other related media. I created a Steam account a little under 2 years ago for some reason that I can't remember. My account has mostly been dormant since I created it until the middle of last year. It was the first time I participated in the annual money-spending ritual that is called the Steam Summer Sale. According to my transaction history the first games I ever purchased was a packaged set of The Witcher: Enhanced Edition and The Witcher 2. I have so many games, which I don't play a lot, but I am happy about having them. They don't expire and they'll wait for me until I have time to spare, haha.

This year's Steam Summer Sale is about to end in a few days and so far I've enjoyed playing my recent purchases. Since the sale started I've been thinking of doing a small giveaway with a few Steam-bought games but I'm not sure if there will be any interest from any of my readers (if you're out there).

So here it is: if there are any of you guys out there who are interested in participating in a small Steam giveaway here, please leave a comment. And while you're at it, tell me if you have any specific game that you wish I'd give away, and I'll see what I can do about it!

Kitchen Diaries: BBQ Beef Spareribs & Potato Mushroom and Spinach Side Dish

I love barbecue and I love ribs. Put them together and you have barbecue ribs! I started out with cooking by merely following recipes I found online. After finding my way around the kitchen and developing a sense of technique I've started experimenting. I look at different recipes and techniques and combine stuff that I think might work well together. One of those experiments was this dish.

Twenty Seven

So, I turned twenty seven last Wednesday. Since I'm away from my family and friends it was pretty non-eventful. Lots of Facebook greetings, a couple of Twitter messages, the usual social media stuff. I didn't feel like going out to celebrate either since it was the middle of the week. So we stayed home. Oh, and baked myself a birthday cake and a pizza for my birthday dinner!
